Volkmar MERCKE and his wife Berta KORNEPAGHE lived in Bremen in the early 1300s. Their son Diederich became a member of the Bremen city council in 1353, and in 1384 had a house on the Wachtstraße. Diederich's son, Berend, born about 1345, was elected a "juror" in the Liebfrauen church in 1367, a member of the city council in 1371, and Bürgermeister in 1399. In 1396 he was a co-donor of the altar of the Holy Trinity and Corpus Christi in the Liebfrauen church (with three other families), for which the four families were granted the patron's rights for 100 years. At some point, "gennant (called) SCHARHAAR" was added to his name. He was married to Mechtild Doneldey, daughter of Albero DONELDEY. Their son Diederich SCHARHAAR became a member of the city council in 1415 and Bürgermeister in 1424. His father, Berend, died in August 1430, and Diederich died in May of 1464 or 1474. Diederich'sr son Gerd became a citizen of Bremen in 1426. His sister Gesa married Reinecke VON BÜREN.

Nicolaus (Clawes) married Mechtilde Groningh? 1 (daughter of Hinrik.) 1339-65 (her second husband=Johan van Luneberghe) (or was she the wife of his nephew's son?

9. Gesa SCHARHAAR. 2 Gesa died in Bremen. Gesa married Reinecke VON BÜREN 2 , son of Rudolf VON BÜREN & Wubbeke VON LÜNEBURG. Reinecke died abt 1450. Their child: 10. Gerd SCHARHAAR. 1 Bremen citizen 1426.
